The workplace today demands something different of management. To meet the challenges ahead, it is critical that businesses develop new management competences with a new management culture to match. They also need to adapt existing management tools to better suit the changing world of work. Managers are consistently required to maintain a competent and professional demeanour when dealing with conditions that are constantly changing, decision making criteria that are uncertain and unclear, and issues that are highly complex (see diagram).
TRESCON believes that the smart economy, which is characterised by disruption, dynamics and changing social values, is making new demands of "smart leaders". Personal, social, cognitive and methodological skills, including resilience, the ability to deal with diversity, digital mastery and strategic/conceptual competence will therefore continue to gain in importance.
